Instances of malignant melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer) have risen threefold over the last 20 years, possibly because of increased sun exposure with tans becoming more fashionable. There is also a link to sunbeds usage.

In short, for normal skin in the UK, factor 15 should be fine if you apply it properly. However buy factor 25 or 30 if you have a habit of applying it more thinly than is recommended on the bottle.

Locations will include The City of London, Kensington and many other central city locations. The model will also be used to place properties in coastal locations and within theme parks and attractions.

Travelodge experimented with the model with a prototype hotel in one of Edinburgh’s busiest tourist areas, Rose Street just off Princes Street. In a listed building with 43 rooms, customers can access two bars and quality restaurant.

However, airlines won’t be able to simply replace existing seating in aircraft with these seats for a couple of reasons. The designer states these seats are only suitable for flights up to to 3 hours and many budget carriers use the same planes to fly to a variety of routes depending on the season. So fitting a plane full of saddle seats would render it unusable for a flight to Athens (at 3hr 45m) for example.

The main reason these seats are not viable is safety. Airlines wouldn’t just need to get the general concept passed by officials (which would be hard anyway), they would need to ensure extra emergency exits are available for increased passenger numbers. One commentator has already pointed out that current budget cabins are close to maximum occupancy anyway, regardless of how many more people could physically be crammed in.

We’re struggling to see how this is going to stand up in court, as Tripadvisor is equally ‘defamatory’ to all hotels regardless of ownership. There is also the tiny matter of positive reviews. If a hotel is good then it will get a positive review, if it is poor then it will get slated. And quite rightly too.

We have to put up with far too much average service in modern society – our consumption of budget services has seen general standards drop.

Anyway, We would be surprised if this turned out to be more than a PR stunt by KwikChex.

The damaged section of the hotel is due to open in 2011 however a selection of rooms and public areas are now open for business and bookings.
